** Just say no to EV mandates!
------------------------------------------------------------
Fox News ([link removed]) (9/20/24) reports: "The Biden administration's attempt to set new emissions standards on electric vehicles was blocked by a bipartisan group of lawmakers on Friday. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a final rule in March under the Clean Air Act to set new emissions standards that would require up to two-thirds of new cars sold to be electric vehicles by 2032. The new standards would affect 'light-duty vehicle manufacturers, independent commercial importers, alternative fuel converters, and manufacturers and converters of medium-duty vehicles,' according to the EPA's final rule. The House passed the Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution on Friday, introduced by Rep. John James, R-Mich., to block the 'out-of-touch regulation' from being enacted. The amendment was passed with bipartisan support, with eight Democrats voting for the
bill. Democrats who opposed the bill argued that the EPA's rule was 'very important' in reducing emissions, but James, speaking on the House floor ahead of the vote, called the Biden administration's new standards 'catastrophic.' The bill's passing comes just one day after the American Energy Alliance and over two dozen energy groups sent a letter to members of Congress urging them to pass the CRA. 'This rule on tailpipe emissions standards is a massive overreach, using a novel application of EPA motor vehicle authorities in an attempt to force a transition in the motor vehicles market to products that align with the ideological preferences of the Biden administration,' the groups wrote in a letter to lawmakers on Thursday."

** "It took an angry public reaction against proposed federal restrictions on gas stoves to get the Biden-Harris administration regulators to reconsider. But that was last year, and in the meantime, Washington bureaucrats have quietly continued their meddling over many other home appliances, with potentially negative consequences for consumers in the years ahead."

Life continues to be a little more difficult in California.

** Orange County Register ([link removed])
(9/22/24) reports: "'Paper or plastic' will no longer be a choice at grocery store checkout lines in California under a new law signed Sunday by Gov. Gavin Newsom that bans all plastic shopping bags. California had already banned thin plastic shopping bags at supermarkets and other stores, but shoppers could purchase bags made with a thicker plastic that purportedly made them reusable and recyclable. The new measure, approved by state legislators last month, bans all plastic shopping bags starting in 2026. Consumers who don’t bring their own bags will now simply be asked if they want a paper bag. State Sen. Catherine Blakespear, one of the bill’s supporters, said people were not reusing or recycling any plastic bags. She pointed to a state study that found that the amount of plastic shopping bags trashed per person grew from 8 pounds (3.6 kilograms) per year in 2004 to 11 pounds (5 kilograms) per year in 2021. Blakespear, a Democrat from Encinitas, said the previous bag ban passed a decade
ago didn’t reduce the overall use of plastic."

Sen. Ted Cruz: Energy Champion

** Rigzone ([link removed])
(9/23/24) reports: "In a release sent to Rigzone recently by American Energy Alliance (AEA) President Thomas Pyle, the AEA announced it is endorsing Ted Cruz for reelection to the U.S. Senate. The AEA noted in the release that Senator Cruz was one of only five senators to receive AEA’s Energy Champion designation this year, highlighting that he had achieved a 'full-term score of 96 percent.' The organization stated in the release that its scorecard informs voters on how their elected representatives in Washington vote on policies that impact the availability, reliability, and cost of energy. 'Senator Cruz has consistently proven himself to be a steadfast champion of American energy independence, standing firm against policies that harm our energy sector and drive up costs for Texas families and businesses alike,' Pyle said in the release. 'This includes his introduction of legislation to repeal the Biden-Harris administration’s natural gas tax, which would particularly harm Texas by
undermining producers in the Permian Basin and across the state,' he added. 'Throughout his tenure in the Senate, Senator Cruz has cast critical votes to protect and support American workers and promote energy security,' Pyle continued. 'His unwavering commitment to free-market principles and opposition to burdensome and often duplicative regulations has made him a champion for his constituents, including the men and women working in the Texas energy industry that powers our economy,' he went on to state."

Why is this surprising?

** Washington Post ([link removed])
(9/19/24) reports: "An ambitious effort to understand the Earth’s climate over the past 485 million years has revealed a history of wild shifts and far hotter temperatures than scientists previously realized — offering a reminder of how much change the planet has already endured and a warning about the unprecedented rate of warming caused by humans. The timeline, published Thursday in the journal Science, is the most rigorous reconstruction of Earth’s past temperatures ever produced, the authors say. Created by combining more than 150,000 pieces of fossil evidence with state-of-the-art climate models, it shows the intimate link between carbon dioxide and global temperatures and reveals that the world was in a much warmer state for most of the history of complex animal life. At its hottest, the study suggests, the Earth’s average temperature reached 96.8 degrees Fahrenheit (36 degrees Celsius) — far higher than the historic 58.96 F (14.98 C) the planet hit last year."
