These are not normal times, and we must chart a new path forward.

Friend,

We are living through unprecedented times and facing an unpredictable future. The COVID-19 pandemic has already claimed the lives of almost 70,000 Americans -- and the livelihoods of millions more -- and more difficult months lie ahead.

Yet even in dark times, people and communities can transform in ways that would be otherwise impossible -- and this time should be no exception. People around the world are assessing their lives and purpose, creating new traditions, and reaching out to each other more often and in more meaningful ways. I'm hopeful such inspiration extends to Congress and our political culture, too.

One thing that won't change in the near future is the need to raise the resources necessary to run successful campaigns. During normal times, my team and I set regular fundraising goals to keep our campaign on track. Every month, we send emails like this to supporters like you, who share my vision for a more compassionate and equitable country and chip in to help us succeed. You recognize what's at stake and the enormous investment of time, energy, and resources it requires.

In mid-March, we made the decision to cease all fundraising activities -- including emails. And while I hesitate to change gears too soon, the longer we wait to resume fundraising, the tougher the road ahead will become.

Dark money groups and the Trump campaign are soon to begin spending huge sums in our district with the hope of flipping my seat and Minnesota.

So today, if you're financially able, will you make a donation to my 2020 campaign?

It's an honor and privilege to represent you in the United States House of Representatives, and it would be joyful to serve a second term. But I cannot do so without your support -- because my commitment to rejecting all money from PACs, special interest groups, and fellow members of Congress is absolute.

If you cannot afford a contribution at this time, I completely understand. Please take care of yourself and your family first, and know how grateful I am for your past support. Be in touch, and I'll do the same.

-- Dean
