John –
People across the state are telling me California is more out of balance than ever, with the cost of housing, food, education, childcare and elder care is all increasingly out of reach.
In fact, a recent study found that high interest rates, inflation, and other factors have priced out middle-class Americans from purchasing homes in nearly half of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in the country.
Do you know where the most unaffordable areas are? You guessed it: California.
If we want to make the dream of home ownership a reality for more Californians, we need a Governor who will fight for the middle-class and champion meaningful housing reform.
It’s far past time to build more homes and take on corporations buying up single-family homes for real estate trusts. Can you pitch in $3 today to support driving down housing costs and creating a path to restore the middle class?
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
But the worrying signs don’t stop there. Things are even worse for those who are considered “lower-middle class” – they have been priced out of an astounding 93 of the top 100 metro areas, up from only 33 in 2019.
It’s hard enough to find affordable housing as it is, let alone as corporations buy up so much of the housing available just to rent it out.
The hard-working people of our state deserve better. Nobody should be priced out of their hometown.
We need a leader who will stand up to special interests, no matter how big, to make sure all Californians can live securely wherever they call home.
If you’re with me, chip in $3 today to support housing reforms that work for working families.
Sincerely,
Betty
