National Employ Older Workers Week begins today, friend!

At Easterseals, we work all year long to help people 55 and over develop the skills needed to thrive and feel confident in the workforce.

Many life events can cause a sudden financial burden later in life, friend – but state and federal programs often don’t provide enough assistance for older Americans to even cover the costs of necessities like housing, food, and clothing.

That’s why many older adults find themselves in need of a job after never being in the workforce or being out of it for some time. But getting back into the workforce can be challenging for many older adults, especially those dealing with a lack of transportation access or struggles with financial literacy.

Maggie was one of these struggling older adults. After 20 years in her nursing job, she was no longer able to handle the physical strain of her work. She was left feeling isolated as she survived on minimal income from Social Security and struggled to pay for basic necessities.

After she was referred to us, we helped Maggie come up with a plan and the financial assistance to buy a used car and pursue more employment opportunities. This helped her gain invaluable computer, customer service, and other technical skills – and she landed a dream paid internship with Habitat for Humanity!

With just a little help, so many other older adults can also develop new skills and certifications and use their vast life experience to achieve great professional success later in life.
