Protect churches on #GivingTuesdayNow—$50,000 Goal

Dear John,

On Easter Sunday, a member of local law enforcement monitored a small church service inside Calvary Baptist Church in Junction City, Kansas. Just 21 congregants had gathered to hear Pastor Aaron Harris’ Easter message.

The church had instituted rigorous social distancing and health safety protocols to protect those who had gathered for worship.

But for government officials, that wasn’t enough.

Two days later, Pastor Harris spoke with the county sheriff. The sheriff told Pastor Harris that if more than 10 people were sitting in the pews for church that upcoming Sunday, the pastor would face criminal penalties for violating the state’s mass-gathering order—even though the state allowed numerous secular gatherings of more than 10 people!

John, ever since governors started limiting public gatherings and issuing stay-at-home orders, many churches have been unsure of what to do.

They needed help navigating the new rules and regulations. Many called the ADF Church Alliance for help.

And they’re still calling.

We’re hearing from hundreds of churches.

Attorneys with the ADF Church Alliance are working overtime to ensure that churches get the legal help they need—churches like Calvary Baptist Church.

Because of the quick and generous action of people like you, the ADF Church Alliance was able to file a lawsuit on behalf of Calvary Baptist Church. In response, Kansas revised its executive order to ensure that church gatherings are treated equally and no longer singled out for special punishment. Praise God!

John, in these challenging times, churches should be free to focus on shepherding their congregations, helping their communities, and serving those in need. Just as they always do.

Sadly, some government officials are using the current crisis to bully churches and threaten the free exercise of religion.

Now, the demand for legal support for churches is at an all-time high.

With government overreach on the rise, we are trusting God for $50,000 on #GivingTuesdayNow to protect churches.

#GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity that will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, May 5, 2020. This is your chance to join with your brothers and sisters to financially support causes you are passionate about as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.

While many ADF cases spend years in litigation, churches needed quick and immediate relief. Every day is critical as churches work to reach the lost and share the hope of the Gospel during this challenging time.

On #GivingTuesdayNow, will you help defend churches against government overreach?
