Organizing for a Green Economy is a long term project. But sometimes, we have to act immediately.
That’s what we accomplished earlier this month, when in just a few weeks, we coordinated with a coalition of 153 Environmental Justice Advocacy groups and Onondaga Nation allies to push back on the Governor’s nuclear-heavy “future of energy summit” not far from AGREE's own office.
We organized locally and statewide for a powerful day outside the forum, putting together Op Eds that cut through the industry’s falsehoods and making our demand loud and clear: Governor Hochul must keep the promise to our future that New Yorkers made when we passed the CLCPA in 2019, not waste time on wasteful false solutions that won’t meet our goals. You can read the exact words in our press release and our letter linked therein.
It’s likely you’ll soon see even more misinformation about nuclear energy than usual, so now is a great time to get the facts from our informational resources like our Green Economy Library.
If you prefer the documentary format, you can watch the excellent "Atomi Bamboozle" as part of Sierra Club’s nuclear free film series from now until the end of the month. Plus, catch an online panel with the filmmakers and experts on September 30th.
And finally: our ability to rapidly respond to such big events is only possible thanks to our small but mighty (and growing) staff. Which is why we are working to build out our roots with more small donor support from AGREE. If you can spare even a few dollars to keep our work going and growing, we would be truly grateful. 🙏
