Big Wins for our District! I am proud to announce several victories that will greatly benefit our district. This week, I helped secure new funding to help the City of San Antonio hire 50 additional police officers. I also met with law enforcement in West Texas to discuss new legislation I will soon introduce to combat oil theft in the Permian Basin. Finally, the House passed one of my bills to improve the foster care system. I look forward to seeing it signed into law in the coming weeks. Keeping Children Out of Harm's Way After more than a year of hard work, I am proud to announce that my legislation, the Find and Protect Foster Youth Act, passed the U.S. House of Representatives and will soon become law. This bill will give state and federal agencies more tools to improve nationwide oversight and care for foster children. Out of more than 17,000 bills introduced in the 118th Congress, only 80 have been signed into law. I’m proud to be part of the solution and deliver real results for our district in Congress. Strengthening Public Safety I’m pleased to announce San Antonio has been awarded $6.25 million to hire 50 additional police officers. This marks the second consecutive year San Antonio has secured the maximum amount of funding from the federal COPS Hiring Program, which supports local law enforcement with additional training, staffing, and equipment. I’ve been a strong supporter of the COPS program through my position on the House Appropriations Committee, and I am proud to have supported the City of San Antonio's grant request this year and last year. Reducing crime in our communities starts with supporting law enforcement with the resources they need. I will continue fighting to back the blue. Combating Oil Theft The Permian Basin is home to the largest oilfield in the United States. However, a rise in oilfield theft has threatened the industry. This week, I had the honor of attending the Law Enforcement Oil and Gas Investigative Conference, where I met with LEOs across West Texas who are committed to stopping this type of crime. In Congress, I’m working on a bill that will both increase penalties for criminals who steal oil and empower law enforcement to more effectively counter oil theft. Rest assured—I will continue to make this issue a priority in Washington. Championing Small Business Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy. I’m honored to receive the National Federation of Independent Businesses’ 2024 Small Business Guardian award for my 100% pro-business voting record.
