The campaign to liberate the voice of San Francisco’s Congressional District from 33 years of neoliberal, corporate rule will be won in the field. Eight months out from the March 3, 2020 primary election, Shahid for Change is organizing throughout the city to offer solidarity to our friends and allies, call attention to injustice, help others raise funds for their causes, and introduce more San Franciscans to our campaign.
Each week, Sierra offers supporters a roundup of ways to get involved in the field or from your home or phone wherever you are. See the latest weekly opportunities here: https://shahidforchange.us/volunteer-opportunities/
From last week’s invite to join Shahid for Change in support of the Trans March
Today, we are trying out a new email format sharing our week’s field activities. Please let us know what you think!
LAST FRIDAY.
We kicked off off a big weekend of Price celebrations by tabling in Dolores March before the Trans March.
Later in the day, we headed over to Slate Bar to join friends from San Francisco DSA to celebrate Pride, support Trans March participants, and raise money for DSA national convention delegates while promoting the new SF DSA Transit Justice Committee.
_____
SATURDAY.
We tabled at Civic Center as Pride celebrations continued…
before heading to Dolores Park for the Dyke March.
_____
SUNDAY.
We began the morning introducing our campaign to attendees of the Alice B Toklas Pride Breakfast, before joining Shahid in the Pride March and back at Civic Center.
_____
MONDAY.
We joined dozens of parents and children outside Speaker Pelosi’s office in the Federal Building, chanting, “Close the camps!” Monday’s Playdate Protest to #CloseTheCamps was organized by Hand In Hand: Domestic Employers Network, Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA), Bay Resistance, and SURJ SF - Showing Up for Racial Justice
_____
You can help us meet our goal of growing our field organizing staff!
We marched with thousands of San Franciscans from Senator Dianne Feinstein’s office near Civic Center to Pelosi’s federal building office demanding that Congress act to Trump’s growing system of concentration camps for migrants. See ABC 7’s coverage here.
______
WEDNESDAY.
We joined early childhood educators to pack the court in defense of Proposition C, which would expand child care services in San Francisco. Three corporate lobbies have sued to block the voter-approved initiative. In solidarity with the organizers behind "YES on C", we refuse to allow a small group of corporate interests tear down a bill that can help thousands of San Franciscans exit homelessness by providing housing, homelessness prevention, mental health services and shelter.
____
THURSDAY.
We joined supporters of Bernie Sanders for President in the city of Alameda’s July 4th parade …
before heading over to El Rio’s “Queer as Fourth Radical Resistance” party and fundraiser for MyRem, a local nonprofit whose mission is to assist in precluding eviction and foreclosure for individuals, families, and small businesses. The event was not only a great opportunity to give back, but to be among other queers and allies who believe that America isn’t worth celebrating until we are all living equitably.
