Friend, bodily autonomy is a basic human right and fundamental to democracy. 

I lived in a world before Roe v. Wade and celebrated the court’s decision in 1973 to make abortion accessible. That’s why I was devastated to see almost 50 years of progress rolled back in an instant when the conservative Supreme Court majority overturned Roe in 2022. Either we can make decisions about our own bodies, or we are not living in a democracy. 

We can, and must, fight back – with our voices, our votes, and our grassroots support for leaders like Sherrod Brown who are fighting to restore and protect the rights of women as well as men. Sherrod’s opponent, Bernie Moreno, is an ally of Donald Trump who actually wants to nationalize women’s bodies by supporting a national abortion ban and opposing any exceptions. Senate control would hinge on this neck-and-neck race. Moreno could be the deciding vote on a nationwide ban if we don’t take action now. That’s why Republicans are going all in on this race and why it’s become the most competitive – and expensive – Senate race in the country. As Republican dark-money groups make record-breaking ad buys and Moreno pours millions of dollars of his own money into this race, Sherrod is counting on grassroots supporters like you and me to help him fight back.
