The law needs to recognize what science has long been telling us about who elephants are and how they suffer in zoos. This means recognizing elephants’ right to liberty.
This is one key part of what we’ll be arguing to the Colorado Supreme Court on October 24th as we make the case for freedom and sanctuary for five elephants confined in the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo: Jambo, Kimba, LouLou, Lucky, and Missy. This day will be a watershed moment in the fight for nonhuman animal rights. Today, Elephant Appreciation Day, we wanted to express our appreciation to you–because you’re the reason this hearing is happening.
As an NhRP supporter, you show what it means to truly appreciate elephants. It’s not by looking at them behind bars as they sway and bob to try to cope with the trauma of endless confinement. It’s by recognizing how wrong it is to strip elephants of all control over their lives.

Our support going into this hearing is strong, but the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is a wealthy institution with a vested interest in elephants remaining legal things with no rights. This means that our clients need all the help they can get. If you can, please donate today to help make the campaign to #FreeTheCMZElephants as strong as it can be–not just for Jambo, Kimba, LouLou, Lucky, and Missy, but because of the light we can shine on all elephants suffering in zoos.
