At The Trevor Project, we know that creating safe spaces—whether at home, in schools, or within the community—is essential to supporting LGBTQ+ young people and helping prevent suicide. Safe spaces foster a sense of belonging, encourage open conversations, and provide the protection necessary for young people to express their identities without fear. When LGBTQ+ youth feel seen and supported in affirming spaces, they are not only more likely to seek help, but they also report significantly lower rates of attempting suicide.
There are many ways to build and maintain these safer spaces. At home, it can start with open, empathetic dialogue and building trust. ** Victory in Kentucky: Protecting LGBTQ+ Youth from Conversion Therapy
------------------------------------------------------------
We are thrilled to announce a significant win for LGBTQ+ youth in Kentucky, as the Governor has signed an executive order protecting young people from the harmful practice of conversion therapy. This decisive action brings hope, demonstrating that leaders across every state and town, regardless of political affiliation, are fighting for the rights and well-being of LGBTQ+ young people.
“As we continue to witness a historic wave of anti-LGBTQ+ bills being introduced in states across the U.S., this executive order serves as a powerful reminder that LGBTQ+ young people have allies and leaders who support them in every corner of our country,” said Jaymes Black (they/she/he), Chief Executive Officer at The Trevor Project.
