My name is Jeremy Garza, and I’m a Plumber/Pipefitter from Lansing, Michigan. I know your inbox is likely full of emails from campaigns explaining why they need your money to fund their campaign, and I am sorry to add to all that, but I had to reach out about my friend Elissa Slotkin. I have been a proud union member of United Association Local 333 for 25 years, and I serve on the Lansing City Council to give working people a voice in their local government.
I have known Elissa since I met her during her first run for Congress in 2017. And I have been proud to support her in every campaign since because I have seen her in action working on behalf of working people and fighting to support unions. Here are just a few of the moments we’ve shared:
I have always been impressed with Elissa, and in particular with the way she listens to people. I’ve never seen a candidate work harder to really get to know people, and then to follow up.
But the thing about Elissa that really stands out is that, as a Congresswoman, she’s always available and easy to reach – and she shows up. I have seen her at countless Labor events, standing side by side with working people and hearing directly from her constituents about what they need. And if I need something for my union, she takes the time to meet with us, hear us out, and then GOES TO WORK.
I know I’m not a big-name celebrity or well-known politician, but I am emailing you because the stakes here in Michigan are too high to not get involved. Elissa’s opponent used to represent me too, a long time back. He will try to pretend he supports workers and unions to win some votes, but we can’t let ourselves be fooled.
Working families across the state are counting on us, all of us, to come together and ensure that Elissa – a TRUE champion for workers – is the next U.S. Senator from Michigan.
So, even though you don’t know me, I’m going to ask: Will you join me in supporting Elissa’s campaign for U.S. Senate? I donated what I could to her, and whatever you can do today does really make a difference.
