Lt. Governor Flanagan Highlights Historic Summer for Infrastructure Projects
Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan are celebrating a historic summer for infrastructure and safety improvements across the state. There have been 193 road and bridge projects statewide this construction season and an additional 54 projects to improve airports, water ports, railroad crossings, and transit infrastructure.
*“From roads and bridges to water ports and railroads, we’re investing in our transportation infrastructure across the state,”* said Governor Walz. *“These construction projects are improving safety, strengthening commerce, and ensuring our systems are weather resilient – all while creating good-paying, union jobs.”*
*“Thanks to Minnesota workers, 193 road safety projects are wrapping up across the state as we gear up for winter,”* said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. *“With historic infrastructure investments, we’re making commutes safer and more efficient while employing hundreds of Minnesotans with family-sustaining jobs.”*
Governor Walz signed the two largest infrastructure bills in state history into law, including a $2.6 billion infrastructure bill [ [link removed] ] in 2023 and a $1.9 billion investment [ [link removed] ] in 2020.

On Monday, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan recognized the newest Supreme Court Justice Theodora Gaïtas.
*"Justice Theodora Gaïtas is a remarkable jurist who has served at all levels of our judicial system,"* said Governor Walz. *"She understands the complexities of the system and is an excellent addition to the Minnesota Supreme Court."*
*"As a longtime public defender, Justice Gaïtas has never lost sight of the people behind every decision of the justice system. She has dedicated her life to pushing the system to be the best it can be," *said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan.* "It was an honor to celebrate her investiture to the Minnesota Supreme Court."*

Governor Walz Announces Surge in Minnesota Exports

This week, Governor Walz announced that Minnesota exports of goods surged to $7.1 billion in the second quarter of 2024, a 17% increase over the same period in 2023.
*“Minnesota’s rapid growth of exports distinguishes the state as a leader on the global stage. This is an accomplishment made possible by the state’s innovative workers and businesses who consistently produce high-quality goods to* *meet global supply chain needs,” *said Governor Walz. *“This surge in exports is proof that when we invest in workforce development, business expansion, and building strong partnerships abroad, our economy thrives.”*

Governor Walz Encourages Minnesotans Impacted by Flooding to Apply for Assistance

Governor Walz Surveys Flooding in Northern Minnesota
Governor Walz is encouraging Minnesotans impacted by this summer’s severe flooding to apply for federal assistance. Homeowners and renters in 19 counties affected by this summer’s severe flooding have until September 27 to apply for federal disaster assistance.
*“Countless Minnesotans experienced flood damage to their homes this summer – not just losing furniture and belongings, but also critical infrastructure including water heaters and furnaces. Help is available, and I encourage all Minnesotans in the impacted counties to take advantage of these resources,”* said Governor Walz. *“With the support from federal, state, and local partners, we’re not stopping until Minnesotans have what they need to recover.”*
