When she was just 10 years old, Addison began experiencing frequent fevers and flu-like symptoms. For months, this typically active and social kid grew more and more lethargic.

Her parents were constantly searching for answers, only to have her condition dismissed as a virus. And yet, Addison continued to struggle. She lost weight and developed bruises. Then one night, when her mother found her in bed struggling to breathe, she rushed Addison to the emergency room. That’s when she received the devastating diagnosis: cancer.

Addison endured 26 days of chemotherapy and nearly 200 days in the hospital. Her mom shared that there was an overwhelming sense of heaviness every time they would pull up to the hospital, and that she would get sick to her stomach.

After enduring so many anxious, uncomfortable days in the hospital, Addison knew how difficult it is to be away from home with limited options for how to pass the time. That’s what inspired her wish to provide new TVs and Bluetooth speakers to the 10 children’s oncology rooms at the hospital where she received her cancer treatments.

Addison also asked to brighten the hospital environment with vibrant and joyful art. Inspired by her own love of the beach, she joined a muralist in adding her handprints to create coral for the undersea-themed mural – which was filled with fish, octopus, jellyfish, starfish and even mermaids!
