Please share with your fellow prayer warriors.   Fighting For Faith, Family & Freedom Saturday, September 21, 2024 To: Friends & Supporters From: Carol Bauer As you know, my wife, Carol, prepares a monthly prayer alert. I hope you will share Carol's thoughts with your friends and fellow worshipers. Thank you for taking an interest in her monthly devotion. -- Gary The last time I sat down to write my thoughts on how we could pray together, it was the start of the Democrat convention week, and we were at the front end of the Kamala Harris candidacy. She seemed hesitant to talk to the press, but then she was in a completely new role. And she clearly did not want to be asked about her knowledge of a failing Joe Biden and how long she had known the country was being led by a feeble, failing leader whose judgment and words could not be trusted. Now we find ourselves one month and yet another Trump assassination attempt later, and certain themes are crystal clear. Kamala Harris intends to stick to a miniscule number of softball interviews. She has not fleshed out the very few policies she does talk about. And she has offered no explanations for major policy shifts from long-held beliefs. The initial reaction to her debate performance has been tempered now that we see the same rehearsed answers in very different settings. Meanwhile, she keeps watching the calendar to see if the days can tick by to Election Day without alienating any part of her coalition. There is a stark contrast in how the two tickets engage with voters. One ticket goes anywhere from deep red to deep blue states and talks to a wide range of local and national press, podcasters, town halls, and television personalities. The other ticket shies away from spontaneous events and only speaks with friendly press. The recent second assassination attempt on President Trump added yet another level of anxiety for the American electorate. I still can't believe I am writing those words -- second assassination attempt! Sadly, the trust Americans have in our key law enforcement institutions has only eroded further in recent weeks. The investigations of the two assassination attempts, such as they are, have left the American people nervously wondering about the competence, trustworthiness, and leadership of the previously revered FBI and U.S. Secret Service. Too many times in recent years we have seen the law used as a political weapon, and voters are now wary. And so, we march closer to the election, with early voting already underway in some states. We are being inundated with political ads, mailers, phone calls, and yard signs. We have two candidates with very different outlooks before us. We have a deeply divided electorate and a press with a favored candidate and a willingness to be seen that way. We have two recent assassination attempts, which seem to be treated very nonchalantly. And, we have a public wary of the objectivity of law enforcement and the courts. In short, our nation sits atop a powder keg at a time of increasing global challenges. We need to pray! Lord, we know our country is at a crossroads with two starkly different choices of leadership for the next four years before us. Open our eyes to the gravity of our decisions as voters. If we waver and hear the siren song tempting us not to vote, nudge us to see the importance of our participation. Heavenly Father, remind us that elections chart our country's future on issues like religious liberty and life. By exercising our precious right to vote, we have a voice in shaping the country our children and grandchildren will inherit from us. O Lord, give us discernment, strength, and commitment in the days ahead. Lord, give us wisdom as we speak to others about the choices we have. And then give us a sense of peace that we have done our part and we can rest in your presence in the days ahead.
