News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends,

I’m proud to report that this week, three bipartisan bills I cosponsored passed the House.

On Tuesday, the House voted to pass legislation I Introduced with Rep. Drew Ferguson to support victims of identity theft. This bill will ensure fraud victims have a single point of contact at the Social Security Administration (SSA) to work with until their case is resolved. This is an important step to improve Social Security so we can better assist these victims. Additionally, I will continue the fight to pass comprehensive legislation, Social Security 2100, to enhance Social Security benefits for the first time in more than 50 years. You can view my remarks below.

On Wednesday, I voted to pass the Autism CARES Act, a bipartisan bill I cosponsored to authorize $2 billion in support for autism education, research, and resources for children and families. 1 in 36 children in the United States are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. I will continue to support efforts to ensure they have access to the care and support they need to thrive.

When I served in the Connecticut State Senate, I worked with Dr. Edward Zigler, ‘the father of Head Start,’ to create the first Family Resource Centers (FRCs) in our state. What started as three FRCs has grown into 58 that serve 13,000 people in our state annually, connecting them with federal resources and providing them with access to health screenings, parenting classes, and childcare. This week, the House voted to pass legislation I introduced with Rep. Mike Carey to ensure FRCs can access the funding they need to continue to crucial services to families across our state and nation. Dr. Zigler understood that childcare is family care, and I am proud to honor his life’s work with this legislation.

I will keep working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass common-sense legislation that supports Connecticut’s children, families, and seniors. To follow what I’m working on both in Washington and in Connecticut, visit my Facebook page, follow me on Twitter, or follow me on Instagram.
