FUNDING VETERANS’ BENEFITS

Image

The Veterans’ Administration was facing a budget shortfall that, if unaddressed, would cause a reduction in veterans’ benefits in just a few short weeks. That’s why I joined a number of my House of Representatives colleagues to introduce legislation that would provide supplemental funding to ensure our veterans continued to receive their benefits without interruptions. I’m happy to report that our bill was unanimously approved by the House on Tuesday, then passed by the Senate, and signed into law by the President yesterday. We must now work together with the VA to ensure this kind of budgeting crisis does not happen again in the future. This is a good example of how Congress can work together in a bipartisan fashion to solve a problem.

PUBLIC SERVICE RETIREE BENEFITS

This week, I signed the discharge petition to bring H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act, up for a vote. The bill repeals the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset and is critical to ensure our teachers, firefighters, & police receive the Social Security benefits they deserve. ACADEMY NIGHT

Next week, my office is hosting our annual Academy Night to provide information to high school students interested in attending one of our U.S. Service Academies. I hope our 41st District students are able to attend and explore the terrific opportunities our Academies provide.

The Department of State's Online Passport Renewal (OPR) system is now available to the American public 24/7. Millions of Americans can now renew their passports online at their convenience and from the comfort of their own homes. OPR is a secure and paperless process that makes it easier for Americans to renew their passports by eliminating the need to print a paper application, use a check, and physically mail their application. The OPR system available at Travel.State.Gov/renewonline.
