I know that you are busy and this is one of hundreds of emails in your inbox, so I will keep it quick. Since the general election officially kicked off after the primary in early August, our race has been flooded with attack ads. This is what we prepare for in the year leading up to now, but I thought it might be instructive to lay out how these attack ads work, and the sheer amount of money being spent in the most competitive open Senate seat in the country.

Starting on August 7th – immediately following the primary – we’ve seen nearly $9 million in spending by One Nation, a top outside spender with ties to Mitch McConnell, in three media markets across Michigan – Detroit, Lansing, and Flint.

Nearly $4 million from the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the organization with the sole purpose of flipping the Senate red.

Almost $3 million from Great Lakes Conservative Fund, a PAC bankrolled in part by a single, conservative billionaire.

$500,000 worth of TV ads from the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers Association PAC.

So in total, we have seen upwards of $20 million (!!!!) in spending on attack ads against us on TV, with millions more in digital advertising.

Millions more in TV reservations have been placed over the next few weeks. And who knows how much more they have planned, as we head to the final, competitive weeks of the election.

We always knew this would be an expensive race, but with just 45 days to go, this is where the rubber meets the road. We’re in the thick of it. And while they lather on the attack ads, we need to keep putting out strong, positive content to cut through the noise of the attack ads against us.

So, from the heat of the fight, are you willing to chip in to help us fight back against the tsunami of attack ads from conservative super PACs?
