Hi John,
I hope you were able to join our conversation with Steve Ballmer this week on the national debt and congressional budget process. Coming out of that discussion, it’s clearer than ever that Congress is failing in its most basic responsibilities.
As you know, all of us spent the better part of the last three years engaged in the Unity Ticket effort, which meant toning down our focus on Congress. It was a worthy enterprise—one that grew our movement exponentially, sparked a national conversation about electoral choice, and marshaled tens of thousands of citizens to our cause.
But in that time, the achievements of Congress were paltry. The current 118th Congress has been one of the least productive in U.S. history, and Congress now ranks as the least trusted institution in our society—which is saying something.
As we approach our national meeting in December, it's time for all of us to refocus on Congress, where tensions will be high after this election and important decisions must be made. We may want to think of new approaches to our work. No Labels has always been about innovation, so it's important to continually refine our approach in Congress.
We all must be on the hunt for key leaders who want to meet in the middle and are authentically committed to solving problems. With the razor-thin modern majorities in both houses, it doesn’t take a large group to tip the balance of power.
No Labels is a movement of citizens first and foremost, and we must ensure that your voices are heard and duly represented. With this contentious election and mistrust in government at a fever pitch, your voice and engagement are more important than ever.
This is a tough time for America, but we cannot give up. Working together, we can bring the fresh thinking and new approaches necessary to restore the trustworthiness of the People’s Body.
We’ll have much more to say about our strategy on December 12, so if you aren’t already registered for that conference, please click here to do so today.
Have a great weekend and thanks, as always, for your partnership in this movement.
