Now that we are back in session, I wanted to talk to you about Project 2025 and all the problems that comes with it. Donald Trump's Project 2025 is an extreme agenda that would roll back decades of progress on reproductive freedom, housing equity, and civil rights. This plan, pushed by MAGA Republicans, aims to criminalize abortion nationwide, which would worsen the Black maternal mortality crisis. We've already seen the deadly ramifications of these bans right here in Georgia, with the deaths of Amber Thurman and Candi Miller. It would also further widen the racial wealth gap by gutting housing protections and allowing for rampant housing discrimination, pushing marginalized communities deeper into poverty. Project 2025's ultimate goal is to consolidate power and strip away the rights of millions of Americans, threatening the very fabric of our democracy. As your Congresswoman, I'm fighting every day to stop this dangerous plan to move forward. | I'm working with House Democrats to lower costs, grow the middle class, and defend freedom. We believe in doing what’s right for the American people, which includes fighting for reproductive freedom and ensuring that all individuals have access to the healthcare they need. Together, we’re dedicated to making life better and more affordable for everyday Americans, prioritizing their needs over political games. | This week, I celebrated both National Voter Registration Day and National Black Voter Day. With just 46 days until the election, now is the time to check your registration! Many have been purged from the rolls, and in the spirit of Congressman John Lewis, I'm fighting to ensure every voice is heard. Georgia’s voter registration deadline is October 7th, and early voting begins on October 15th. Click here to check on your voter status and make a plan to ensure your voice is heard. Listen to the interview I did on the Dyron Ducati show for National Voter Registration Day below and learn about what you need to ensure you're vote ready this election season. | The 53rd Annual Legislative Conference | Last week, I joined my fellow Congressional Black Caucus colleagues at the 53rd Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference. A hectic week of panels, awards, and parties. | On day one I hosted a panel titled 'Heirs & Hustles: Guard the Grind, Protect Family Legacy', where we discussed how Heirs' Property disproportionately impacts Black families, costing billions in lost generational wealth and widening the racial wealth gap, and how I’m addressing it with my HEIRS Act. You can read about my panel here. | If you found the information in this email useful, please forward this to a friend and have them subscribe here, to keep up with all things in the Fighting Fifth! | Nikema Williams Member of Congress | Washington, D.C. 1406 Longworth House Office Building Washington, DC 20515 Phone: (202) 225-3801 | Atlanta 100 Peachtree Street NW | Suite 1920 Atlanta, GA 30303 Phone: (404) 659-0116 | |
