It was a busy one in New Jersey and at the Capitol between a critical conversation focused on student and families’ needs, voting to protect veterans’ benefits, and more. To start the week, we were also excited to celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month! We look forward to helping honor the contributions, impact, and achievements of Latino communities in New Jersey and across our nation. Our diverse cultures, stories, and histories make us stronger and who we are as a nation.

COMING UP: Town Hall Focused on Combating Hunger!

This Thursday, September 26th at 5:30 PM, Congressman Kim is hosting his 79th town hall to speak with neighbors, recognize Hunger Action Month, and highlight his ongoing commitment to combat hunger in New Jersey! He will be joined by the Executive Director of Freehold Area Open Door to speak about their services assisting and advocating for the local community.

Congressman Kim Hosts Back to School Roundtable to Amplify Local Students and Families’ Needs

This week, Congressman Kim brought together community leaders for a robust discussion around challenges facing New Jersey students and families. It was incredibly impactful to hear their insights and shine a light on specific support that would go a long way for families as we start another school year.

The group highlighted top issues including gaps in mental healthcare, the presence and implications of food insecurity, and the group and Congressman Kim’s shared efforts to not only increase available federal funding for local resources and services, but also to cut red tape and combat other barriers to accessing this support.

Congressman Kim has fought for kids and local families’ needs, and to support New Jersey’s educators and healthcare providers, since first coming to Congress. He is a co-founder of the Congressional Dads Caucus which uplifts policies that benefit working families, including an expanded Child Tax Credit and increasing access to childcare. Recently in Congress, he reintroduced his Summer Meals REACH Act to expand children’s access to nutritious meals and combat hunger and introduced the Child Care Access Act of 2024 to address the childcare shortage nationwide. For Fiscal Year 2023, he also secured $1,000,000 to construct a new behavioral and mental healthcare facility for children in Burlington County.

Celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival and Chuseok

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival and Chuseok to all who celebrated this week! Congressman Kim enjoyed taking part in the first ever Chuseok celebration at the White House. We send many blessings of happiness and gratitude for the Moon Festival.

Recognizing POW/MIA Recognition Day

On National POW/MIA Recognition Day today, we pause to honor the bravery and sacrifice of servicemembers’ missing in action, or taken as prisoners of war. We recognize them and their loved ones’ service and strength in their absence.

Happy Birthday Air Force!

On Wednesday, we wished the United State Air Force a happy 77th birthday. We are grateful to all the past and present airmen and personnel for their dedicated and selfless service to our nation.

It’s National Passport Month! In case you didn’t know, the U.S. State Department has started an online passport renewal tool to help make it easier to get a new passport. It is so important to follow helpful online guidance to make your travel as easy as possible. Be sure to check out the new tool if you have travel planned.

UPCOMING WEBINAR: A Guide to School Policy, NJ Laws and Support Around Bullying

On September 25th at 12 PM, our office is hosting a webinar around combating bullying and what resources are available in our communities for someone impacted by bullying. Our panel of experts will discuss:

What are the school policies, responsibilities, and New Jersey Laws for reporting a child being bullied?
What do child experts know about the origins of bullying?
How can we support children who are experiencing, witnessing, or the cause of bullying?

This Thursday was National App Challenge Day! Do you know a young, aspiring computer scientist? Registration for the 2024 Congressional App Challenge is open! The challenge is an incredible annual opportunity for local middle and high school students to show off their STEM skills.
