Dear John,
Today, President Biden approved a major disaster declaration in Connecticut following the extreme flooding that took place in our state from August 18, 2024 – August 19, 2024.
This action by the President makes federal funding available to affected individuals in the counties of Fairfield, Litchfield, and New Haven. Federal assistance will be used to supplement state, tribal, and local recovery efforts. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster. Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.
Residents and business owners who sustained losses in the designated areas can begin applying for assistance at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362), or by using the FEMA App.
With this approval, communities, businesses, and residents will have full access to the federal assistance necessary to recover from this one in one-thousand-year storm. I am grateful to the Biden-Harris Administration for their continued support in the wake of this disaster, and I will continue my work with local and state leaders in ensuring our communities have the resources needed to fully rebuild. Jahana Hayes Member of Congress
