John,
Over the past few months, anti-Israel groups have waged a malicious
campaign targeting Heather Reisman and Indigo - Chapters. Under the
offensive banner "IndigoKillsKids," these groups have spread false and
defamatory messages about Indigo - Chapters, an iconic Canadian
retailer that has been a beacon of philanthropy for the Jewish
community.
Heather Reisman and her husband, Gerry Schwartz, are dedicated
supporters of Israel and the Jewish people. Their philanthropy
includes the HESEG
Foundation, which provides scholarships to Lone Soldiers who serve
in the Israel Defense Forces. Notwithstanding their significant
contributions, they have become the targets of unfounded attacks, with
activists vandalizing Indigo - Chapters stores and calling for
Wednesday, September 25 to be a "Day of Action" against more than 40
Indigo - Chapters locations across Canada.
This week, Indigo - Chapters successfully obtained an interim court
order to shut down the defamatory websites. However, the activists
behind this smear campaign, including Charlotte Kates of Samidoun (an
organization with links to the PFLP), are continuing their efforts to
tarnish Indigo - Chapters' reputation.
To counter this injustice, we are launching a national and
international #BUYcottIndigoChapters Campaign on
September 25th. We urge you to participate by purchasing from Indigo -
Chapters in-store or online
and encouraging your friends and family to do the same. By
standing together, we can show our support for those who stand with
us.
How You Can Participate:
- Visit your local Indigo - Chapters store on September 25th, or
shop online.
- Share your purchases on social media with the hashtag
#BUYcottIndigo. You will find images for social media here.
- Encourage your community, including interfaith and inter-ethnic
allies, to take part.
Your support is crucial in this effort. Let’s
unite as one community with our allies and stand with Heather Reisman,
Gerry Schwartz, and Indigo - Chapters in the face of this malicious
campaign. Together, we can mount a powerful campaign demonstrating
support for targets of hate.
Shabbat shalom, CIJA
