Sunnyslope Road SW Now Open
"(Port Orchard, WA)" - County crews have successfully completed repairs to two failing culverts beneath Sunnyslope Rd SW. The road is now open to all traffic.
Last winter, a 36-inch diameter corrugated metal culvert carrying Coulter Creek beneath the road failed, causing the roadbed to wash out and requiring a complete closure. During subsequent inspections, a second culvert was also identified as failing and in need of replacement.
Construction began in August 2024, and crews worked diligently to complete the necessary repairs within the "fish window" established by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to minimize aquatic life disturbance. The 36-inch corrugated metal culvert at Coulter Creek was upgraded to a 20-foot-wide aluminum arch culvert, improving the natural flow of the stream through the crossing. Additionally, the twin 30" corrugated metal culverts at the southern crossing were replaced with twin 36" HDPE culverts.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation throughout this project, and we're pleased to announce that normal access to Sunnyslope Rd SW has been restored.
