Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is the latest Republican to attack Kamala Harris for not having biological children. At a Trump town hall, Sanders said "My kids keep me humble. Unfortunately, Kamala Harris doesn't have anything keeping her humble." It's a disgusting attack, and it's unfounded – Kamala Harris has two stepchildren. Sanders' comments are an insult to millions of families across the U.S. – and she's not the first to do so. In 2021, J.D. Vance said, "You look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC — the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children. And how does it make any sense that we've turned our country over to people who don't really have a direct stake in it?" With their attacks on Kamala Harris, Republicans are denigrating stepparents, foster parents, and guardians across the country. It's unconscionable, and it needs to stop.
