Supporting veterans, protecting women, and ending wokeness...   Washington, D.C. - After meeting with North Texans on Monday, I returned to Washington the following day for a busy week of committee hearings and meetings. I voted for several pieces of legislation that will support our veterans and servicemembers, which you can read about below. On Tuesday, the House passed the Taxpayer Data Protection Act, which I helped introduce in May to strengthen penalties for leaking personal data and tax information. I also voted for the Chronic Disease Flexible Coverage Act which will expand access to treatment options for the millions of Americans living with chronic diseases. This bill codifies the Trump Administration’s policy that encouraged chronic disease management to improve patient health. I started Wednesday with two tax team meetings before heading to my Small Business Committee hearing to question the head of the Small Business Administration (SBA), Administrator Guzman. The SBA has abused taxpayer resources for partisan purposes, imposed burdensome and costly regulations, and ignored the needs of our job creators. Click here or on the image below to watch my line of questioning. After, I met with North Texan professional insurance agents to discuss tax reforms that support our small business owners. I helped introduce the Main Street Tax Certainty Act to support Texas-24 job creators. Later, I met with North Texas members of the Financial Services Institute to discuss the harmful regulations imposed by the Biden-Harris Administration, including a misguided Department of Labor rule that would limit access to financial planning services. I also met with North Texans from Baylor Scott and White, the largest health care system in the Lone Star State. We discussed my work on the Ways and Means Committee to ensure patients have access to affordable, high-quality care, and innovations in healthcare delivery. It was great to meet with North Texan compounding pharmacists to discuss the ongoing drug shortages facing our community, FDA overreach, and how pharmacies are working to address shortages. After, I spoke with Dallas-area jewelers about trade policies hurting the industry and their efforts to prevent jewelry theft. Before heading to the House floor, I met with In Defense of Christians and the Armenian National Committee of America to discuss their concerns and the ongoing conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. Wednesday night, I voted for the Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act, which would make it easier to deport criminal illegal aliens convicted of sex offenses or domestic violence. Disappointingly, more than 150 of my Democrat colleagues voted against this necessary legislation. I also supported the Chronic Disease Flexible Coverage Act, originally introduced through the Ways and Means Committee, which allows employers more flexibility in offering pre-deductible coverage for health care services to treat chronic illness. On Thursday morning, I met with leaders of several North Texas chambers of commerce to thank them for their partnership with our 2024 North Texas Job Fair and discuss the challenges facing our local business community. I also spoke with the Tax Council to provide an update on my work to create a more competitive tax code so we can continue to grow our economy and create more opportunities for working families. Later, I voted for the End Woke Higher Education Act and the Prioritizing Economic Growth Over Woke Policies Act to promote free speech on campuses, protect religious groups from discrimination, and combat regulatory overreach. After, I spoke on the House floor to address the ongoing and deadly border disaster created by the Biden-Harris administration and the failures of Border Czar Harris to take action to secure our southern border and protect American citizens. This morning, I voted to enhance Secret Service protection for presidential and vice presidential nominees, which passed the House unanimously. I also voted to end federal bailouts for sanctuary cities like New York, which are choosing not to enforce our nation’s laws. I voted for the SAVE Act over a month ago. This week, I voted against bloated government overspend that has harmed so many of our hard-working families, increased inflation and led to our country being over $35 trillion in debt. We cannot keep kicking that can down the road. Texas-24 Work of the Week This week, I continued to press SBA Administrator Guzman during our Small Business Committee hearing and demanded answers about her agency's blatant disregard for working Americans. Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week's Texas-24 Hometown Hero is The University of Texas at Dallas president, Dr. Richard Benson. As he enters his last year as president, I want to thank him for leading with integrity and passion, as well as the decades he’s spent guiding and inspiring young minds.
