First thing's first, John: Thank you for your continued support—it means the world. We *truly* could not do what we do without everyday people like you supporting us in the fight for Black liberation.
That’s why we don’t take it lightly when we ask you to support our movement work. While we know it may seem like we ask for support a lot, it’s because we’re constantly growing and scaling our work.
But here’s the thing: we don’t expect everyone to be able to contribute every time we ask.
It’s important to us that people are only contributing what and when they can. Sometimes you may be able to give $5, another time you may only be able to chip in $2, and sometimes support may only look like opening and reading an email or adding your name to a petition—and that’s okay! This is what a grassroots movement truly made of everyday people looks like.
We’re coming to you today as September is rapidly coming to a close. We want to make sure that we end the month strong. Not only is it the end of a quarter as well as the end of the month, but we’re even closer to election day and have a lot of GOTV plans coming up.
That’s why we’ve set a goal of raising an additional $17,000 by September 30th at midnight.
Can you make a contribution of anything you can afford today to help us reach our goal?
We’re in the middle of a critical election cycle and we’re going to make sure that issues that are essential to Black liberation aren’t swept aside and are on the ballot.
As a reminder here are a few of the initiatives your donations will directly support:
🗳️ Working with partners across the country to get Black voters informed and registered so that they are ready to cast their vote this November.
💰 Loan repayment micro-grants for Black student alumni and HBCU students.
🏘️ So far we’ve given over $35 million to 70 unique organizations. This year we’ve invested in innovative projects like the Black Panther building in West Oakland, CA. BLM has supported this Black Panther initiative with a $1 million contribution to support the five businesses on the building’s first floor — a tech center, gym, restaurant, market, and farm. Every one of these businesses is cooperatively owned by formerly incarcerated people.
❌ Fighting to abolish the police and hold them accountable.
🌱 Showing up at events like Invest Fest and Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival to uplift and support Black economics, joy, arts, and creativity.
If you’re in a place to, can we count on your donation today?
Whether you donate today or not, thank you for being a part of the Fam!
—Black Lives Matter
Our grassroots movement is pushing for Black liberation every single day. We are striving to create a world where Black people do so much more than just survive. It’s time we thrive.
As an organization one of our biggest hurdles is consistency.
A recurring contribution of anything you can afford goes a long way as we plan for the months, years, and even decades ahead. This is the most effective way for small-dollar donors (like you) to power our Black liberation work.
Will you make a recurring contribution of $5 or more today so that we can keep building momentum for our movement?
