Cynthia Lummis - Senator for Wyoming
Presidential nominees should be
focused on promoting their platforms, not fearing for their lives
In
recent years, political discourse in this country has reached a fever
pitch, and unfortunately, political violence has been at an all-time
high. Violence against any political candidate is never the answer,
yet it has become a tragic and disturbing reality. In just 65 days,
President Trump has been the target of two deranged gunmen, who,
mercifully, were unsuccessful in their attempts to assassinate the
former president. But the chilling truth is we were merely inches away
from a devastating event that would have changed our history.
As we
work to lower the temperature in this nation, we must also take swift
action to shore up security measures to protect presidential nominees
and ensure that their bid for office does not cost them their lives.
The bottom line is that no presidential candidate should fear for
their or their family's safety, and I am partnering with Senator Rick
Scott to ensure the families of presidential nominees do not have to
endure the unimaginable trauma the Trump family has experienced in the
wake of these assassination attempts.
By raising the U.S. Secret
Service's protection levels for nominees to mirror protocols used to
protect a sitting president, nominees can focus on promoting their
platforms, not fearing for their safety. As we near the final weeks
leading up to the election, I am hopeful Senate Democrats will join us
in swiftly passing this commonsense solution to protect President
Trump and the future nominees to follow.
Happy Trails,

Senator
John Barrasso and I enjoyed hosting the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of
Commerce during their visit to Washington. We had a great discussion
with Wyoming business owners to hear firsthand how we can continue to
best serve Wyoming and support its businesses.

I
was also named a "Guardian of Small Businesses" by the National
Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) for my 100% voting record
in favor of these organizations. Small businesses make up nearly 99%
of Wyoming businesses [link 1], and I am proud to advocate on behalf
of the nearly 73,000 small businesses throughout the Cowboy State.

Legislative
Actions
America's energy industry is critical to our national
security, yet there is little recourse for punishing eco-terrorists
who attempt to tamper with or disrupt pipeline construction or
operations. Current federal law punishes those who destroy or damage
operating pipelines but does not clearly cover vandalism, tampering or
disruption of pipeline construction.
We can no longer allow far-left
extremists to get a pass for their blatant disregard for the safety
and well-being of innocent Americans which is why I am partnering with
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) to introduce the *Secure Transportation of
American Energy Act**. * [link 2]This commonsense legislation would
increase criminal penalties to include vandalism, tampering or
disruption of pipelines and will protect energy infrastructure out
west.

Wyoming
Shoutout
At just 11 years old, Rhett Goolsbey became the youngest
Wyoming hunter to harvest a bighorn sheep ram. Rhett and his father,
Bill, ventured on an eight-day hunting trip in the mountains,
accompanied by a team of horses and mules. Despite the rough terrain,
Rhett's hunting trip turned out to be a record-breaking success. Join
me in congratulating Rhett on this milestone and wish him luck as he
tackles his first elk tag later this season!
