I’m not going to take up much of your time—if your inbox or your text messages or your social media timeline are anything like mine, you’ve probably heard more than enough about Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson over the last 24 hours.
Mark Robinson is a dangerous, disgusting man who will do grave damage to our state if he is elected Governor. But you want to know something? He’s not unique.
Every. Single. Republican. on the statewide ballot is standing with him.
Not a single one of them called for him to withdraw from his race yesterday.
Not a single one of them has condemned his statements today.
Not a single one of them has indicated they feel even the merest sense of shame to be on a ballot with a man who proudly calls himself a “Black Nazi”, wishes he could own slaves, called Martin Luther King an utterly shocking racial slur, and spent years posting the most disturbing comments imaginable on an internet forum about cheating on his wife with her sister.
Not. A. Single. One.
Their silence says more than their words ever could. A vote for a single statewide Republican this year, from Donald Trump all the way down to my own opponent, Brad Briner, is a vote for Mark Robinson’s values. No one who stands by this man and gives him their support, whether it’s enthusiastic or tacit, is fit to hold office.
The Republican Party’s statewide candidates have made their choice clear this week, and now it’s our job to make sure they have no role in our government next year. I hope you’ll stand with my campaign, and every Democrat running for Council of State, and support us in the final weeks of this election.
