Californians forced to bear even higher gas prices

Gov. Gavin Newsom has called a special session asking lawmakers to pass legislation that will “prevent gas price spikes.” Considering that gas prices are so expensive in California because of the governor’s and Legislature’s policies, this goal is ironic.

Kamala Harris' worst plan yet: bringing the NHS to America

Something, of course, must be done. Less than one in four people are satisfied with the NHS and its outdated centralised system of universal coverage, which routinely fails to provide adequate services. Some 7.6 million patients, including individuals suffering from cancer, are waiting to start treatment. About half have waited more than four months. Many have anguished for over a year.

Despite these problems, across the Atlantic US politicians have been dreaming of importing this deeply flawed system under the banner of “Medicare for All.” As the British people increasingly turn towards the private sector to address obvious government failure, the United States has begun moving in the opposite direction.

Rent-control madness is coming to California's November ballot

Supporters of Prop. 33 are correct the measure doesn’t mandate any form of rent control, but would allow local governments to impose additional controls. However, they know that many liberal cities will immediately jump at the chance to control rental prices to just short of an outright taking. The good news: Voters overwhelmingly rejected two similar measures ([link removed]) by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation in 2018 and 2020, so we can hope they do so again.
