Hello John,
Eight years ago today, we embarked on an extraordinary journey - living an entire year in the Boundary Waters. When we learned of a proposed copper-nickel mine next to our beloved Boundary Waters, we decided to take action by raising awareness to protect the Wilderness – we did this by living in the Wilderness for a consecutive 366 days!
Our trip consisted of visiting 120 different sites, exploring 500 lakes, rivers, and streams, and traveling more than 2,000 miles by canoe, foot, ski, snowshoe, and dog team. We experienced all that the Boundary Waters offers, serenity, adventure, natural elements, the northern lights, and so much more. We shared our experience by writing a book and traveling nationwide to raise awareness. On September 23, 2016, we emerged from the Wilderness, and even though our experience was over eight years ago, our mission remains the same - to raise awareness and support for permanently protecting the Boundary Waters forever.
