John, Mary Gay is always listening to Pennsylvanians on what they need. One thing that comes up over and over again: lowering the cost of child care.
And this election year, child care is front and center, so I want to take a moment to talk about this critical issue, Mary Gay and Democrats' work to address it, and how Trump and Project 2025 would make the problem much, much worse.
But first, instantly add your name here to let us know if lowering costs is on your to-do list for the next administration and Congress.
The Issue: Child Care Costs
|
- Fewer child care facilities and rising costs across the board have caused a child care availability crisis in PA communities
- On average, Pennsylvanians pay up to $15,000 a year (per child) for child care
- That’s almost 40% of a family’s income that’s at the poverty line
|
Addressing the Issue: Democrats’ plan
|
Mary Gay supports universal child care:
- In 2023, Mary Gay introduced the Child Care for Every Community Act in Congress, which aims to expand access to affordable child care to every American family, offer high-quality early education to every child, and create good jobs for our early educators.
- She has voted to expand the Child Care Tax Credit and the Head Start program.
VP Harris and Gov Walz are making child care a top priority:
- VP Harris has announced plans to lower child care costs and expand the Child Care Tax Credit.
- Tim Walz expanded the Child Care Tax Credit during his time as Governor and is a strong advocate for child poverty programs

Investing in child care and early learning opportunities is also an investment in our workforce, our kids’ futures, and even our local small businesses and worker economy. Mary Gay is working towards a world where every Pennsylvanian family, regardless of their income or employment, can access high-quality, affordable child care options for their children.
Mary Gay and Democrats have a plan to address child care costs. Donald Trump and Project 2025 are all-in on fueling the issue.
