Below is a personal message from Dr. Michael Mann – one of the world’s leading climate experts and the recipient of the Tyler Prize (often called the Nobel Prize for the Environment). John – I have spent my entire career researching the Earth’s climate and the climate crisis facing our planet. I’m not going to mince words: We are facing a planetary scale threat in the form of a second Trump term and a radicalized Republican Party dead-set on implementing Project 2025: The most extreme, anti-environmental and anti-climate policy agenda ever put forth in American history. The fate of our planet and global climate action hinges on this election. But I don’t say that to scare you, I say that because it means there is still hope for us if we seize this moment and act. I want to explain more below, but before I do: Will you split a donation to my friends at 314 Action and Blue Amp Action? They are working to reach hundreds of thousands of voters between now and Election Day and are working to elect the largest wave of Democratic scientists and climate experts to ever run for office. Donald Trump has shown us that he is more than just a climate denier. He and his Party want to exacerbate and accelerate the climate crisis by decimating the Environmental Protection Agency, reversing hundreds of policies and programs designed to drive down emissions and keep your communities safe from pollutants, and purging the Federal workforce of scientists and climate experts (he even wants to make it so you have to PAY to get weather reports!). On the other side of that debate stage, however, I saw hope. The hope is that we can build on the substantial progress we’ve made to reduce emissions over the past four years – including the largest climate bill and renewable energy investment in world history (and remember: it was Kamala Harris who cast the tie-breaking vote in the Senate to pass that!). I have no doubt that a Harris-Walz Administration will be the most pro-climate administration we’ve ever seen. But they can’t do this alone: They need pro-climate majorities in Congress and state legislatures all across the country if we’re going to make the necessary changes to stave off the worst-case scenarios on climate. It isn’t too late for us to change course (and I make the case for that in my new book ‘Our Fragile Moment’). But our window to act is closing and I genuinely fear it will be too late if Republicans sweep to power in November and roll back all of the progress we’ve made these past few years. If 314 Action-backed candidates win, we will secure pro-climate majorities in Congress and in state legislatures like Michigan, Arizona, and Pennsylvania. So will you join me in supporting them and Blue Amp Action by making a split donation before their most important FEC deadline to date? |
