What we are doing to help.

We are going to get through the coronavirus outbreak together. If you are experiencing symptoms or are looking for more information, you can visit the website of the CDC or the Illinois Department of Health. We are closely monitoring the situation and its effects on the people of Illinois and our nation as we work together to keep our families and communities safe.

John,

Last week, we launched the bilingual Latinx and COVID-19 Week, which included virtual townhalls, webinars, and press conferences to highlight Latino stories and provide solutions to the health disparities affecting Latino communities during the coronavirus crisis.

The coronavirus crisis is affecting us all -- but communities of color are disproportionately suffering and dying. That is why I introduced, along with the Congressional Tri-Caucus, the Health Equity and Accountability Act (HEAA), which expands healthcare and tackles disparities in healthcare access, affordability, and quality.

Latino communities face many barriers to healthcare access -- it’s up to us to tear them down. We are fighting to ensure that everyone has access to care and coverage, regardless of immigration and insurance status. Healthcare is a human right -- the COVID-19 crisis shows us that public health is a collective issue that requires a collective solution.

Black and brown workers are on the frontlines of this crisis. They are keeping our hospitals, grocery stores, and factories up and running, putting themselves and their families at risk every day they go to work. It is time we recognize that essential jobs are just that -- essential -- and we must ensure these workers receive pay and benefits that reflect that.

The system was always rigged against underrepresented communities, but this pandemic makes it clear how urgent it is that we keep working to level the playing field.

Join our movement for bold, progressive change. Rush a contribution today to help us take on a corrupt administration and stand up for Chicagoland >>>
