Suicide Prevention Month
|
While suicide prevention should be addressed every day, we highlight the importance of helping those in need each September during National Suicide Prevention Month.
Sadly, here in Indiana, suicide is the 11th-leading cause of death overall and the second-leading cause of death for 10-34 year olds.
To help push back against this troubling trend, in recent years, I have supported measures to:
If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts, mental health or substance use crisis, or any other kind of emotional distress, help is just a phone call or text away at 988. The Lifeline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Indiana Counties Institute Burn Bans
With the recent lack of rain throughout Indiana, several counties across the state have instituted burn bans.
Burn bans can be ordered by local fire chiefs in their jurisdiction or imposed by local governments.
When a county is under a burn ban, open burning of materials is prohibited. Campfires and recreational fires are permitted if contained within a burn ring or fire pit. The use of gas and charcoal grills is also permitted, but charcoal must be fully extinguished when finished.

National Surgical Technologists Week
This week is National Surgical Technologists Week, and I ask you to join me in celebrating all of the amazing surgical technologists in Senate District 17!
Surgical technologists serve as a surgeon's right-hand by providing surgical instruments and supplies to the surgeon during an operation. These hard-working individuals are responsible for maintaining the sterile surgical field and ensuring the team adheres to aseptic and sterile technique.
Anyone who has undergone a surgical operation should know that a surgical technologist was present during the procedure and a vital part of the operation.
Let us take this week to celebrate our surgical technologists and their dedication to patient safety! |
