Well folks,

It’s that time again. The end of the third fiscal quarter of the year -- the final full fiscal quarter before the election -- is right around the corner on September 30.

And yes, that does mean your inbox is about to get a bit more crowded with candidates explaining just how important that September 30th deadline is. Apologies in advance. In the spirit of transparency, let me take a moment to explain why this upcoming deadline is so important.

I’ve told you before that people running for office are federally required to report how much money they’ve raised and how much they have in the bank four times a year, at the end of each fiscal quarter. And, I’ve told you that the numbers reported at the end of each quarter are one of the best indicators of a campaign's continued strength.

It also gives both allies and opponents a gauge of what flexibility you have for those crazy 5 final weeks of the campaign, where pop-up issues are the norm.

They will look at these reports and either say "Elissa is vulnerable, we should pour a lot more money into the state to defeat her." Or they will decide to keep that money in their pockets or spend it somewhere else.

It goes without saying, I'd rather not be facing down millions and millions of dollars in attack ads in the final weeks.

That is why I am hoping to post a great fundraising report -- one with lots and lots of individual donations. Because that, too, is a sign that our success is replicable, and opponents might as well just stay away.

These end-of-quarter numbers will be published on October 15th, so right before the election. And frankly, the last month is when the funds you donate can be put to maximum use.

So, I hope you’ll bear with me as we head into our last “end-of-quarter” push before Election Day. And, if you’re willing, chip in below to help us finish out these next few weeks strong. I would not ask if your support was not so critically important to our success.
