Friends --

Just a few days ago, our country passed 1,000,000 known coronavirus cases. More Americans have now lost their lives in just two months of this pandemic than during the entire Vietnam War.

But if I am sure of one thing, it's that despair will not have the last word.

Across America, there are heroes leading us through the darkness -- providing us all with an undeniable sense of hope.

Hospital workers, first responders, grocery store employees, truck drivers, warehouse workers, and so many others who are risking their lives to make sure the spirit of America marches on during these uncertain times.

I carry these stories and experiences in my heart every day as I advocate for policies in the Senate that will help our hardest-hit communities heal and recover from the collective trauma we're experiencing.

I know how important it is that we adopt and permanently implement policies like a federal livable minimum wage, universal paid family and sick leave, and stronger workplace safety standards.

And I won't stop fighting for more cash relief for families hardest hit by this crisis, more support for small businesses, more PPE for essential workers, and more testing for everyone.

Difficult days are ahead and there is much more work to be done. But all of us have power in this struggle, and by committing to radical love, tireless and unyielding acts of kindness - big and small - we will get through this.

Together, we will not just endure this crisis -- we shall overcome.
