This week we celebrated the Port of San Diego’s deployment of the first all-electric mobile cranes in North America. Replacing their old diesel-fueled crane, the new cranes also increased capacity from 150 metric tons to 400 metric tons, now the largest capacity on the nation’s west coast. This action continues to prove economic prosperity and environmental stewardship work in tandem along the waterfront. Electrification is the future—we are modernizing equipment, reducing harmful pollutants, and improving air quality for our portside communities. The Port’s deployment of pollution-free cargo handling equipment aligns with the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District’s community priorities for working waterfront activities, furthers our climate goals, and places San Diego at the forefront of deploying clean infrastructure.

SLOW IT DOWN

Watch your speed, Carmel Valley! I funded two traffic calming signs near Ashley Falls School to deter speeding. I am proud to announce that the signs are up, and speed should be coming down. Let’s all work together to ensure we have safe routes to our schools.
