Dear John,

Last night at PFLAG National’s Love Takes Justice event in Washington, DC, I had the privilege of honoring two champions of advocacy and justice: American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten and Congresswoman Barbara Lee.

As we head into Banned Books Week and a critical election in just 46 days, our work couldn’t be more timely. For over 50 years we’ve been rooted in advocacy, activism, and fighting for justice, and we need every PFLAG member and supporter to pledge to be a PFLAG voter this November.

Thanks to our generous sponsors of Love Takes Justice, we are more than halfway towards our goal of raising $100,000 to mobilize parents, families, and allies to become PFLAG voters in support of the freedom to learn, the freedom to thrive, and the freedom to be ourselves.

Over the past two years, the PFLAG Chapter Network has added 61 new chapters, many of them in small, conservative, rural communities. In areas like this, PFLAG is often the ONLY safe place for LGBTQ+ people to gather. This November, their love will vote for everyone to have access to inclusive books and education.

We are also fighting for trans youth and their families in states like Texas, Missouri, and North Carolina, serving as a lead plaintiff in multiple cases challenging bans of medically necessary care, and working to stop investigations of loving parents for child abuse, simply for supporting and loving their kids. This November, their love will vote for the freedom for everyone to have the access to the medically necessary care they need, without the interference of legislators.

Hundreds of thousands of PFLAGers are getting out the vote, getting folks registered, volunteering to work the polls, and ensuring that everyone has access to the ballot box this November. This Election Day, their love will vote for the freedom for everyone to be themselves, no matter their race, gender, disability, or what’s in their pocket.

This election, our love will vote for the best in all of us—and we’re leading with love, right to the ballot box. Please consider a personally meaningful gift to PFLAG National to get us there.

In solidarity,

Brian K. Bond (he/him)
CEO, PFLAG National

P.S. Take the pledge to be a PFLAG voter—right now—at pflag.org/lovevotes—and then invite five friends or loved ones to join you in taking the pledge.
