An important update from Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington

John,

Jared Kushner is not qualified for pretty much any of the work he’s doing in the White House, but especially leading the government’s coronavirus response—which he’s doing by running a shadow task force that may violate several laws.

This pandemic calls for expertise and accountability, and Kushner’s history of conflicts of interest and ethics issues proves he should not be in this position while so many Americans are at risk. In times of crisis, the American people deserve leaders who work to protect the health of the public, not their personal financial interests. Sign now to call for a pandemic response led by experts, not Jared Kushner.

Thank you,

John,

To allow Jared Kushner to start working in the White House, at least four executive branch anti-nepotism legal opinions had to be overturned. Since then, his conflicts of interest and ethics issues have only increased. CREW has filed complaints about his failure to divest from investments that pose conflicts of interest and his violations of the Hatch Act by using his official position for politics, requested an investigation into his security clearance, which was granted against the advice of career security specialists, and more.

And now, amid the coronavirus pandemic, Jared Kushner is running a shadow task force that appears to violate several laws.

It’s simple: Jared Kushner and other non-experts should not be leading any part of the government’s coronavirus response, especially given the lack of transparency about conflicts of interest, use of private emails, and failure to keep records. If you agree, sign now to call for a pandemic response led by experts, not Jared Kushner.

Not only is Kushner’s task force complicating the pandemic response by running a redundant task force and violating recordkeeping laws by using private emails, but we do not even know exactly who is on the task force or what financial interests they have. Several task force members are reportedly healthcare investors, which raises serious questions about whether their financial interests may conflict with what is in the best interests of the American people.

We’re dealing with a serious and unprecedented crisis—at times like this, Americans should have confidence that the government is being run by experts, who have public health, rather than their own financial interests, in mind. We need an accountable, transparent, expert-led response—and that means Jared Kushner should be far away from the pandemic response. Sign now to say: Experts should lead the coronavirus response, not Jared Kushner.

Thank you,

The CREW Team
