Dear John,
I’m excited to announce that the newest episode of my podcast, Sincerely with Sam Lewis, is out now!
This episode is all about Prop 36, an upcoming ballot initiative threatening to undo California’s progress around criminal justice reform.
In part one, I speak with Tinisch Hollins (Executive Director, Californians for Safety and Justice) and Mike Males (Senior Researcher, Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice) about how real public safety comes from investing in crime prevention and rehabilitation, not from spending more on prisons, which Prop 36 intends to do. Then we dive into a new study, authored by Mike Males, showing that crime rates in California remain near historic lows despite false narratives telling us otherwise.
In part two, I welcome David Barclay (ARC Life Coach) and Isabella Suleiman (ARC Policy Fellow), who speak about the importance of programs funded by Prop 47 savings, such as Project imPACT, which provides prevention, treatment, and reentry services to formerly incarcerated people in California.
