I wanted to make sure you saw Jessica's email about the Polluters Pay Climate Fund. Nearly 11,000 activists have already added their name to our petition to Congress, and our goal is to submit 15,000 signatures this month. Can you help get us there?
Just today, Senator Chris Van Hollen and Congressman Jerry Nadler introduced the Polluters Pay Climate Fund Act, which would require top-polluting fossil fuel companies to pay $1 trillion (with a "t") to a fund dedicated to addressing the impacts of climate change while building a better future.
This bill would #MakePollutersPay for things like:
Rebuilding and upgrading infrastructure
Cleaning up pollution in frontline communities
Providing climate-related disaster assistance
Prioritizing at least 40% of investments for environmental justice communities
For over 60 years, fossil fuel companies have known that their business practices are harming our climate and putting all of us in danger, but they lobbied to protect their profits and stall climate action.
It's past time for Big Polluters to pay their fair share.
It's time for them to stop leaving it to local governments to pay for addressing the problems that they created.
