John,
This week Americans for Tax Fairness is helping lead a massive effort to reshape our nation's tax system. We've partnered to bring activists and everyday people from across the country to Washington, D.C. for an unprecedented lobbying push, taking on corporate interests and fighting for a tax system that works for all Americans.
From Monday through Wednesday, our supporters have been walking the halls of Congress, meeting face-to-face with lawmakers and their staff. Our message is clear and unwavering: Don't cave to corporate lobbyists. Listen to your constituents.
We're demanding that members of Congress let the 2017 Trump tax cuts for the rich and corporations expire next year as scheduled.
These tax cuts have been a boon for the wealthiest Americans and large corporations, depriving our nation of trillions of dollars in revenue that could have been invested in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. They've widened the wealth gap as the ultra-wealthy pay a lower effective tax rate than many working people. It's time to reverse course and create a tax system that reflects our values and invests in our shared future.
But we can't do this alone. While our activists are making their voices heard in person, we need you to flood Congress with letters showing them that their constituents demand tax fairness. They must understand that the American people are watching and will hold them accountable for their decisions on this crucial issue.
Send a message to your senators and representative today. Tell them to stand firm against corporate pressure and let the Trump tax cuts for the rich and corporations expire. Your voice, combined with the efforts of our grassroots lobbyists on the ground, can tip the scales in favor of tax justice.
Yesterday, we also amplified our message with a major press conference featuring tax fairness champions Reps. Lloyd Doggett and Gwen Moore, and Sen. Michael Bennett. Together, we're working with partners to unveil a progressive vision for fair taxation that puts the needs of ordinary Americans first. This event is part of the launch of Fair Share America, a new coalition of hundreds of state and national groups united in the fight for tax justice.
Our vision for a fair tax system goes beyond letting the Trump tax cuts expire. We're pushing for comprehensive reforms that will make billionaires and corporations pay their fair share and could generate trillions in revenue over the next decade. This is money that could be invested in strengthening our communities, improving our schools, and building a more sustainable future for all Americans.
This is a pivotal moment in our fight for a fair tax system. Corporate lobbyists are working around the clock to preserve tax breaks for the wealthy and powerful. They have deep pockets and armies of paid influencers. But we have something more powerful: the voices of millions of Americans tired of a rigged system.
Tell your members of Congress: Let the 2017 Trump tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations expire as scheduled in 2025, and support comprehensive reforms to make billionaires and big corporations pay their fair share.
Let's flood Congress with demands for tax fairness.
