Over the past few weeks, you have probably seen an Election Day countdown. You may have read an email warning you that there are “just 60 days left to make a difference,” or something similar.

And that’s all true.

But I want to reframe things a little bit, because here in Michigan, as with many states, voting does not just happen on Election Day.

Starting September 26th, just one week from today(!), absentee ballots will go out in the mail and voters will begin casting their ballots in this election.

So instead of 47 days, I hope you will think of a countdown of just 7 days until voting day. In 2022, over 1.9 million voters voted via absentee ballot, a full 42% of voters. So 7 days is how much time we have to reach the voters before they get busy making their choices and casting their ballots.

My experience with past campaigns has taught me that a lot of people choose to chip in — either for the first time or a repeat donation — with just 5 or 10 days left before the November election.

But because of Michigan’s extended window for voting, we cannot afford to wait until October 26th or November 1st to see that wave of support, and use it productively to engage voters. By then, voters will have been casting their ballots for over a month, and hundreds of thousands of Michiganders will have made up their mind.

In a race that could be decided by tens of thousands of votes, getting in front of these voters early — before they cast their ballots — is critical.

So with one week until the start of voting in Michigan, I am asking you to chip in directly to my campaign for Senate in Michigan. I would not ask if I was not confident your contribution could make a difference.
