They are facing the world’s worst hunger crisis, but few are noticing. 

Over the past year, 9 million people have fled Sudan to neighboring countries. Famine is looming for many. 

Many people have come to Abigail’s* home country of South Sudan for refuge. Abigail lives with her 80-year-old mother and her two sons. Her husband died in her country’s civil war. She is now the family’s sole provider. 

Because Abigail was never able to receive an education, her job opportunities are limited. After her husband passed, Abigail began doing domestic work to help provide, but the wages she earns simply are not enough to feed her family. 

When the local Unto® staff team heard about Abigail’s situation, they brought meals to the family’s home. It was perfect timing as they had nothing left to eat. 

Abigail’s mother was especially grateful. Earlier that morning, she had been praying the Lord’s Prayer … “give us this day, our daily bread.” 

The provision of meals by someone like you was the answer to her prayers! 

Millions of people, like Abigail, in South Sudan were already facing acute hunger. Now with many people from neighboring Sudan seeking refuge in the country, the food crisis is only worsening. 

The local government does not have adequate supplies to help all those who are suffering. So they must rely on others to step in. Our in-country team member shared,
The government was looking for the support for the displaced people. When we responded, the government praised our organization for their swift action to help the needy people.
The local staff team in South Sudan was able to serve over 8,700 people, including families facing acute food insecurity and Sudanese refugees, through the gift of meals and other critical aid. This helped them build credibility with local authorities and increased their ministry effectiveness.
