Giving Tuesday Now (May 5th)
No, it's not Thanksgiving yet. As a response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19, there are two Giving Tuesdays this year. May 5th is Giving Tuesday Now, a day of giving to unite and heal communities around the world. For #GivingTuesdayNow, we are asking you to support our frontline transit workers through our Masks for Muni campaign. Thanks to the quick response by SFMTA to protect riders and operators, our transit system is in a much better position than other cities. But more masks help everyone stay safer, and operators have been deeply appreciative of the 100 masks we've gotten them so far. Your donation goes to local mask makers, and we're just $1,500 shy of what we need to cover costs and secure 1,000 more cloth masks, as well as 400 paper masks for riders. The more we raise above that, the more we'll be able to do! More masks for riders will help them get safely to work, to get groceries, to access essential services, and will help keep everyone else on the bus safe. More masks for operators will show our tangible support as they make essential trips across the city possible. Every donation goes to purchasing masks, and activates or renews your membership to San Francisco Transit Riders.

Join San Francisco Transit Riders as we discuss the impact of coronavirus on transit and its frontline workers. We'll be hearing from three Muni operators on their experience driving a bus during the pandemic, how they're keeping themselves and riders healthy, and what transit recovery looks like going forward. The webinar is free and open to all. Login and dial-in information will be emailed to registered attendees prior to the webinar.
Transit Organizer Academy
Community organizing is fundamental to our work; it is a central strategy in raising the voices of everyday riders. It takes strategic planning, education, and honest relationship-building to mobilize people to action. But what does that look like? Be part of a broader team of supporters and organizers, be ready to reach different communities (whether students, business owners, neighborhood organizations, or your own networks), and be ready to jump in whenever you’re able to help us reach more riders! We’re hosting an online three-part series focused on our work for better transit in San Francisco, and we invite you to join us to learn more about community organizing and the issues we face. Session one is coming up on Thursday, May 14th from 5pm - 6pm. RSVP today!
