John,
Over the past few days, you helped us send nearly 9,000 messages to Congress about renewing and expanding the Autism CARES Act – the most critical legislation for the autism community right now. Your advocacy made all the difference!
Earlier today, the US House of Representatives passed the Autism CARES Act of 2024. This bill builds upon two decades of progress in advancing our understanding of autism and the support available to autistic individuals and their families. This next iteration of the law dedicates $2 billion over the next five years to boost autism research, data collection and healthcare training. Discover why this law is crucial for the autism community.
The Autism CARES Act of 2024 wouldn’t just extend federal efforts – it expands them to tackle the most critical issues facing autistic people and their families. New enhancements will address challenges for:
- Older and aging autistic adults;
- Autistic people who are non-speaking or may need additional communication support;
- Autistic individuals who require 24-hour care and may struggle with harmful or self-injurious behaviors;
- Mental health of autistic individuals, and
- Families facing provider shortages of developmental-behavioral pediatricians.
Now, the US Senate must pass the Autism CARES Act of 2024 and send it to the President’s desk before the law expires on September 30. Your support has been key in securing the future of vital autism programs – let’s push one last time to ensure the Senate passes this critical legislation!
Sincerely,
David Sitcovsky
Vice President of Advocacy
