Dear Neighbor, I hope you are well. I’d like to update you on a few happenings in the 150th this week. Starting Thursday, Sept. 19th through Sept. 26th, we will recognize Veterans Suicide Prevention Week. The events include a proclamation, flag raising, documentary screening, and witting tree dedication. My office will be attending the Upper Providence Community Fall Fest on Saturday, Sept. 21st, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Black Rock Park. Feel free to stop by our table.

The Journey Home Documentary Screening 

NEXT WEEK: One of the events we are holding during Veterans Suicide Prevention Week is a documentary screening at Ursinus College on Tuesday, Sept. 24th at 6:30 p.m. The Journey Home tells the story of a group of veterans, their community, and PTSD. There will be an opportunity to engage with the participating hosts through a Q&A session. To reserve a seat, please call our office at 484-200-8263. 

Veterans Suicide Prevention Week 

This week, in conjunction with Montgomery County, we will recognize Veterans Suicide Prevention Week from Sept. 19th through Sept. 26th. As of 2021, suicide was the 13th highest cause of death for veterans overall, and the second-leading cause for veterans under 45 years old. Throughout the week, we will hold events that recognize and spread awareness around veteran suicide. The events include a proclamation, flag raising, documentary screening, and witting tree dedication. 

On Monday, Sept. 23rd at 10 a.m., leaders of Montgomery County and I will conduct a public flag raising at the Montgomery County Courthouse located at 2 E. Airy St. in Norristown, at the intersection of Swede and Airy streets. Elected officials and guests will be on hand, as well as a lineup of speakers. Please join us! 

Community Days  

Lower Providence Library Fundraiser 

I had a great time at the Second Annual Taste of Lower Providence fundraiser at Lower Providence Library on Saturday. Excellent food and live music. Always great to see Library Director Marija Skoog and to support our wonderful community library. Special thanks to Candian Tuxedo for some great tunes.

West Norriton Check Presentation 

Today I met with Rep. Matt Bradford, Board of Commissioners Chair Anne Pavone, and Township Manager Jason Bobst to present a check that will send $547,166 to West Norriton Township for signal upgrades at the intersection of Marshall Street and Forrest Avenue. Upgrades like this are critical for the safety, accessibility, and overall infrastructure of our community. Congratulations to West Norriton.   

Ganesh Festival  

On Saturday I attended the 2024 Philadelphia Ganesh Festival at Bharatiya Temple. Thank you for having me. 

Upcoming Observances 

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month – September 

Throughout the month of September, we recognize Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. In the United States, childhood cancer is the number one disease killer of children and the leading cause of death by disease for children between the ages of 4 and 14. Let’s use this time to acknowledge survivors and children currently battling cancer so we can help them, their families, and further research. 

U.S. Air Force 77th Birthday – Sept. 18 

Today, September 18th, the United States Air Force celebrates its 77th birthday. On this day in 1947, the U.S. Air Force was established as a separate branch of the U.S. Military. As a retired Air Force Colonel who served for over 20 years, it’s great to have a day that celebrates the history of our Air Force, recognizes its importance, and honors the brave men and women who serve or have served.
