Dear John,
As a valued member of the NhRP community, we’re excited to share some incredible news with you about the growth of our organization. We are thrilled to welcome two visionary leaders to our Board of Directors—Raffael Fasel and Justin Marceau!
First, meet Raffael Fasel, an Assistant Professor in Public Law at the Cambridge Law Faculty and a Fellow of Jesus College. Raffael specializes in human and animal rights law, constitutional law, and legal philosophy. During his doctoral studies, he co-founded the Cambridge Centre for Animal Rights Law, where he currently serves as Co-Director, and he is also an Associate Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics. His recent book, More Equal Than Others: Humans and the Rights of Other Animals, provides groundbreaking insights into the legal framework for animal rights. With degrees from Yale Law School, the University of Cambridge, University College London, and the University of Fribourg, Raffael’s extensive academic and legal expertise will empower us to push forward in our mission to secure rights for nonhuman animals, and his thought leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of animal rights law.
Next, we’re delighted to introduce Justin Marceau, the Brooks Institute Faculty Research Scholar of Animal Law and Policy at the University of Denver, where he leads the Animal Law Program. Justin is a passionate advocate for animals, with deep expertise in criminal and civil rights law. He co-founded the Animal Activist Legal Defense Project, a pioneering legal clinic that provides defense for animal rights activists, and his critically acclaimed book, Beyond Cages, challenges traditional approaches to animal protection. Justin’s dedication to reshaping legal frameworks for both human and animal rights will be vital as we continue to advance our groundbreaking legal work. His influence, both as a scholar and as an advocate, aligns with our commitment to driving systemic change in favor of nonhuman animals.
By bringing Raffael and Justin on board, we’re strengthening our ability to create lasting change for nonhuman animals through the law. Their expertise and passion for justice will help us expand our legal strategies and deepen our impact. Together, we’ll continue to build a world where the rights of all beings are recognized and respected.
We couldn’t be more excited about what the future holds, and we hope you’ll join us in welcoming Raffael and Justin to our team!
With gratitude for all you do to help us build a just world for all,
Christopher Berry
