John — It’s Capitol Police Staff Sergeant and U.S. Army Veteran Aquilino Gonell.
If you don’t know my story, I am one of the officers who fought to defend the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
On that day, I was assaulted by more than 40 MAGA extremist rioters who were trying to overtake the Capitol and disrupt the election certification process. As a lifelong patriot and veteran, I knew then what I had to do. I had to defend our Capitol and the lawmakers inside.
I fought and was sprayed with bear mace, punched, kicked, and beaten with stolen police batons and weapons. I was attacked by my fellow Americans — the people I have spent my life serving and defending in the Army.
I will never forget that day. My career was cut short, and the scars I bear will always stay with me.
But since then, I have fought tirelessly to defend our democracy, right alongside fellow Army Veteran Eugene Vindman.
Like me, Eugene is an Army Vet and has spent his life defending the constitution we swore to protect. He’s fought for his country time and time again, even at the risk of his career when he blew the whistle on Trump’s phone call attempting to extort Ukraine. That phone call led to Trump’s first impeachment and subsequently ended Eugene’s military career. But nothing and no one has stopped Eugene from defending our democracy.
Now, he’s running for Congress, doing everything he can to fight against MAGA extremism and continue defending our democracy.
Eugene’s in one of the most competitive races in the country, and he’s facing off against a MAGA extremist who claims that the deadly January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol was not an insurrection.
It makes me sick, John. I can tell you firsthand that it was an attempted insurrection because I have the scars to prove it.
So I am asking you to support Eugene in his campaign for Congress. He’s never stopped fighting for us, so we must fight for him to win.

We can’t have a repeat of January 6th, John. So we need to overwhelmingly beat Republicans at the polls this November.
